This year, as in each year since its introduction at the start of 2008, Milan’s Ecopass pollution charging system is taking a summer break. This means that visitors to Milan can drive into the city and not have to worry about having to purchase a pollution charge ticket between the 2nd and 20th August 2010.
Yesterday, Sunday, the centre of Milan was closed to traffic for most of the day until six in the evening. After a sunny start, the weather was lousy, but that did not stop plenty of cyclists taking to the streets of Milan, as you will see from the short film I took with a Kodak Zi8.

The L’Artigiano in Fiera – is craft fair – which is held annually in December in Milan’s Fiera complex on the outskirts of Milan in Rho. Don’t let the mention of ‘outskirts’ put you off, as the Rho Fiera site is easy to get to from Milan’s centre, and entrance is free.

Last year, Milan’s Ecopass congestion charge system took a summer vacation, and this year it’s the same. From Monday 3 to Friday 21 of August, the Ecopass system will not operate, meaning that motorists can access the Ecopass designated area without having to pay.
