Guess Where in Italy? Part 4

Here’s another Guess Where in Italy post.  This time it is a picture of a well known church in Italy.

Do you know where this church can be found, and what it is called?  As you may know, Italy is littered with impressive churches.  I have no idea how many churches there actually are in Italy, but I am sure it is one heck of a lot.

Many of Italy’s churches exteriors conceal the most incredible interiors.  In fact, I might be true to say that many of Italy’s churches are more impressive internally than they are externally.  There is always an exception to the rule though, and one huge exception that I know is Milan’s spectacular Duomo.

Again, this quiz is just for fun, there is no prize.  It’s just to see how well you know Italy.

Where is this church in Italy?

And what is it called?

As usual, I’ll give you until this Saturday, but if nobody has managed to guess by Thursday, I’ll provide a clue.

Happy guessing, and web hunting!

    Hi Alex,

This one was more challenging but interesting too. I identified the style as Sicilian Baroque then had a look at pictures of churches there and found it –

San Giorgio Cathedral (Duomo) in Ragusa Ibla, Sicily.

    Have you been there?
It looks really beautiful to me. I agree with what you say about the Duomo in Milan. I saw it for the first time in June this year and was blown away by it. I’m no expert on Italy but love to learn more about it!

Thanks for another fun lesson teacher!

      Hi Nora,

Wow, you are good at this! Yes, you are right again, it is a photo of San Giorgio Cathedral in Ragusa Ibla, Sicily. Well done!

No, I have not been there, but I am told that Ragusa Ibla while beautiful, is in a splendid state of dilapidation and its inhabitants are not all that keen on entertaining tourists either. I know someone who tried to instil some enthusiasm in them, but failed miserably!

A great shame when you see the kinds of works of art on offer.

As for Milan’s Duomo, which I know well, yes, it too is a phenomenal work of art, and I shall never forget the day I first saw it.

Glad you liked the lesson, my best student! I’ll write some more on Ragusa Ibla for Saturday.

      Congrats!

      Alex
