I’ve really know idea who came up with the idea of using a sexy young lady to advertise men’s underwear, but the result certainly catches one’s eye. It caught mine.
I have not, however, rushed out to buy a new pair of boxers simply because at first, I did not realise it was aimed at men! Perhaps the girl distracted my attention from the ads main message.
It was Italian company Intimissimi which ran the campaign using a girl to attract attention to men’s undies. I’ve no idea whether this is an original idea, but it seems quite novel.
For those not in the know, Intimissimi’s stores, which can be found all over Italy, are well known for their range of undergarments. Generally, the lingerie on offer is for the ladies, although I have noticed under gear for the less fairer sex too. Italians appear to be quite into sexy lingerie from what I’ve seen.
I’m not sure how the feminists the world would have taken to this ad. Actually, it’s nowhere near as racy as some others I’ve seen adorning Italy’s streets. The girl is nice, I have to say.
Here you are, one attractive young lady drawing attention by wearing men’s draws:
Gentlemen, do you feel the temptation to rush out and update your underwear collection?
Stan Marcieski says
My god! Kids watching the Simpons at lunch time! What are you thinking? Haven’t seen the undie ads but they can’t do more damage to a child’s brain than watching mindless drivel like the Simpsons!

Soft porn should not be prime time.
Alex Roe says
Hi again Francesca,
Not exactly soft porn. At least she has clothes on. Some of the ads I’ve seen in Italy do border on soft porn though.
Not sure this is worth bothering Lorella Zanardo over.
I agree that soft porn should not be prime time though.
Cheers,
Alex

Caro Alex,
The “girl” (actually, a woman but okay) is a model (and sorry, we all agreed this summer — not very attractive at that) but the Albanian or Slovenian wife of a famous footballer here in Italy (don’t ask me who)…
None of us pondering her pout knew she was advertising men’s underwear, however.
Ad Fail.

Cara Francesa,
She’s young enough to be my daughter, so she’s a girl! And I’m a guy or man.
Did not know who she was, thanks for enlightening me/us. Odd you missed the men’s underwear point of the ad, er, not 😉
Ciao, ciao,
Alex

Alex, have you seen the new Footlocker TV spot yet? I saw it yesterday and I was a bit shocked that it was airing during lunch when most kids are eating lunch and watching The Simpsons.
Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA7wZ8t9m78
(Possibly NSFW?!) 😛

Yes, Lulu, I have seen that Footlocker ad – maybe not during kids programmes, but I’d agree that it’s not suitable for youngsters. Should be aired after 9 pm or, seeing as Italian kids go to bed late, possibly after 11pm.
I wonder if anyone has complained about it as being unsuitable for children. You’d have thought the Vatican might have commented.
Best,
Alex
