As you might imagine, Pavarotti‘s sad demise was all over the news, and even though his funeral was not a state affair, it was televised so it might as well have been. The man was a superstar in Italy, and all round the world. A real opera star, in every sense.
Now, I’m not a great opera fan, but Pavarotti did quite a lot for this form of music. While purists may grumble that he popularised opera, I hope others might say that he made opera a little more accessible to a wider audience. That’s a good thing to do in my humble opinion, especially in this rather too materialistic old world.
