Looking for an Espresso Machine which Won’t Break the Bank?

November 25, 2014 by Alex Roe

If you are thinking about getting an espresso machine so you can make espressos and cappuccinos at home, then the De’Longhi EC155 Espresso and Cappuccino Maker may be just what you are looking for.

Or perhaps it’d make an interesting Christmas present for a coffee loving friend, well it’s the time of year when we are all looking for a little gift inspiration.

Not only does this espresso machine make great tasting coffee, it’s compact, so it won’t take up much space. It also uses both coffee pods and ground coffee which means the sky’s the limit in terms of the number of coffee blends to try. By the way, you can buy refillable coffee pods. And, you can control water temperature which means you won’t end up with the lukewarm coffee which some much more costly espresso machines tend to serve you.

Customers say the frothing wand works fine for making frothy cappuccinos, so if a frothy caffe latte is your thing, this machine will be ideal.

The De’Longhi EC155 is easy to clean – but do remember to clean it once a month or else it may well slow down. After cleaning, it should be back up to speed.

Finally, you’ll want to know the price. Well, the list price is $140 – but at the time of writing, it’s on offer on Amazon.com at only €79.95 – that price may well change though.

This particular machine also got a very positive review from an expat Italian now living in the USA, here’s part of it:

Leilei: I am Italian, born and raised. Moved to US at 30 yrs old. Moved to an area where there’s no Italian-American influence, no chance of going out for an espresso. Only Starbucks… no thanks. Thought I could go by without espresso for 6 years (what was I thinking??? I don’t know). Then sudden espresso cravings made me buy this espresso machine. De Longhi is a very common brand in Italy for any type of home appliances. I’ve had this machine for 6 months now, using it every day. It’s awesome. Like the espresso cup you’d get in Italy “al bar”. It gives a thick layer of “crema” on top of each cup.

You’ll find plenty more reviews like that too.

If you do decide to go for this espresso machine, or any other, for that matter, I recommend trying it with Lavazza Crema e Gusto Ground Coffee – it’s one of my favorites! Another Italian coffee brand which is popular in Italy is Illy and some espresso drinkers prefer Illy coffee to Lavazza. Illy coffee does taste a little different and you might prefer it. At the end of the day, it’s probably not much more than a matter of personal preference.

By the way, if you’d like some cute espresso cups to go with your espresso machine, see this post: Espresso Cups for Christmas

Beware if you do end up with one of these machines – espresso coffee can be mighty addictive!

This is actually a pretty good espresso machine and it’s also pretty affordable considering of what it can do. A lot of super automatic espresso machines are really expensive.
