You’d be amazed at the variety of espresso cups which exist in Italy. They have a couple of things in common – their size and the fact that sets of these small and cute coffee cups make original Christmas gifts.
For espresso addicts, like me, and lovers of Italian coffee, a set of espresso cups can make an interesting talking point after any evening blessed with Italian food.
I’ve always liked espresso cups, and we’ve got several different designs in our Milan apartment. Now I would not describe myself as a collector, but I do think espresso cups are highly collectable. Do you know any espresso cup collectors?
Well, if you have not yet discovered the joys of Italian and Italian-style espresso cups, this post will show you where to look. Indeed, both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk have quite a number of espresso cups and if you are short of Christmas gift ideas, then this post may help.
For the more furbi among you, presenting someone you know with a set of Italian style cups this Christmas might be a clever way of dropping a hint about a vacation in Italy in the New Year.
On to the list, some of which are Amazon bestsellers, others of which are not, I just liked them! Oh, by the way, cappuccino cups also make very good teacups – but don’t tell any Italians I told you so. Happy Christmas Shopping!

Now all you need is some real Italian coffee and a coffee maker! Here you will find a list of popular Italian Espresso makers
Di says
I adore my Nespresso machine, it helps me survive the life I live mostly out of Italia … but I’ve been drinking it out of a tiny little Royal Albert teacup I was gifted. It just fits in a tall espresso and is delightfully light to drink from.
(Does this make me a complete peasant?)
Alex Roe says
Hi Di,
Drinking coffee out of a tiny little Royal Albert teacup you were gifted does not make you unpleasant 😉
But using a coffee maker designed by the Swiss to make proper espresso does make you somewhat suspect 😉 😉 !
Ciao, ciao,
Alex (who does not drink Swiss coffee!!)
Paolo says
On your last point about coffee makers, you obviously cant beat a coffee made in a bar, but after trying 4 different machines over the years i am in no doubt that the best coffee made at home is with a nespresso machine! Only drawback is that you cant use whatever coffee you like, you have to use their capsules. If only they would team up with illy!
Alex Roe says
Bar coffee does tend to be the best Paolo – this is true!
I have also heard that Nespresso is good. I don’t like the idea of capsules too much – very convenient – but you cannot go off to a coffee shop (one which sells roast coffee) and have some fun trying all the different blends on offer. The people who run these shops often roast on the premises, so some fine coffee can found. And the aroma in these shops – which are often coffee bars too – is wonderful.
As for Nestle and Illy getting together – I think it’s unlikely – but you never know.
Best,
Alex
