Discover Bliss in this Bed and Breakfast in Anghiari, Tuscany

I did not want to tell you about this particular bed and breakfast.  Why?  Because I am envious of the people who run it.  Envious of the fact that they live a stone’s throw away from the medieval village of Anghiari in Tuscany, which can lay claim to being one of the most beautiful villages in all Italy.

And I’m stuck in noisy Milan with a blasted old fogies disco virtually on my doorstep.  I want to live in Anghiari in Tuscany!  And you might too, if you happen to go stay at the Tuscan Bliss bed and breakfast which is situated no more than a few minutes walk away from this timeless Tuscan treasure.

Still, I’m going to bite the bullet and, painful as it may be for me, tell you a little about this expat run Bed and Breakfast for this week’s Expat Bed and Breakfast feature.  But be warned, if you do go and stay there, you might never want to leave!

Those interested in antiques might also like to hear that a large antiques fair is held in nearby Arezzo every month.

The name of the house in which those wishing to check out tantalising Anghiari might like to stay is Il Ciliegio, a former ruin which has been lovingly transformed into what it is today.

Although this bed and breakfast is a little off the beaten track, it is close to Arezzo and only around 40 minutes away from Perugia by car.  Places such as Florence and Bologna are around 2 hours drive away.

Sounds as if it might make a good base for both seeing the well known sights, and for exploring the area in general, as well as being a nice spot to get away from it all.

The Owners

The owners, who do not give their names on the site, are an Italian / English couple who moved to Anghiari from the Chipping Norton (Cotswolds) area of the UK in 2005.  The couple had always dreamt of living in Tuscany and opted for this particular area as it is unspoilt and relatively unknown to mass tourism.

According to the owners’ site, the locals were extremely welcoming and helpful, so one can assume that living in the area is pleasant.

Stop reading, start speaking

Stop translating in your head and start speaking Italian for real with the only audio course that prompt you to speak.

Il Ciliegio can accommodate up to 4 people.  There is a double bedroom (‘il mandorlo’ – the almond tree) and a twin bedroom (‘il girasole’ – sunflower).

The double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with bath while the twin bedroom has a separate private bathroom with shower.

Although they form part of the owners’ house, the two bed and breakfast rooms and their bathrooms are on the top floor, which means they enjoy lovely views of the surrounding landscape and also a certain degree of privacy.

  • Breakfast provided daily

  • Tv in room

Tuscan Bliss also offers courses in Italian which are held by one of the owners who has over 1o years experience of teaching Italian to foreigners in the United Kingdom.  Not a bad place to go to start learning or even brushing up your Italian, especially if a vacation in this area tempts you into thinking about moving over to Italy to live.

Arezzo’s Monthly Antiques Fair

As mentioned at the start of this post, the nearby town of Arezzo also happens to host, on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month, one of the largest and oldest antique fairs in Italy.

No, not literally! ATAC is the Roman equivalent of Milan’s public transport company – ATM. Like ATM, whose site I talked about in my ‘A useful site, almost – ATM Milan’ post, ATAC also has a site which allows you to calculate routes around Italy’s capital.
