Situated in northern Italy half way between Venice and Verona, Vicenza is a city rich in history,  excellent food and incredible architecture.  This medieval Italian city offers plenty of attractions for both young and old alike, and yet is easy enough to tour on foot.

This B&B is run by a well travelled American, Bob, who is from New Jersey.  Bob has been in Italy for almost 30 years and when he is not running his bed and breakfast he is playing piano in downtown Vicenza.  Bob loves to show people round northern Italy, which he knows well.  Then there is his Thai other half Jenny who is happy cooking either Thai or Italian food.

Bob and Jenny’s website is a mine of information on Vicenza and the surrounding area.  If you visit you will also learn that you can do an Italian course while staying at their B&B, or even better, why not do one of their Italian cookery classes and learn Italian at the same time?  Bob is also able to tell you where the more interesting restaurants are in Vicenza.  I’m sure he’d be happy to tell those thinking about buying a place in this area a thing or two which may prove useful too.

The Vicenza Area

Lovely Lake Garda, Italy
Lovely Lake Garda, Italy

If you are planning a tour of northern Italy, then Bob and Jenny’s b and b in Vicenza is a place worth adding to your list of stop off points.  Aside from being well worth visiting in its own right, Vicenza is located close to such interesting places as Verona, Venice and the majestic Lake Garda which is also a must visit.

Lake Garda is interesting in that there is a great difference in the appearance of the localities which hug the lakes shores. For example, someone visiting the southern shores of this lake and who was blindfolded and taken to the northern sections of the same lake could be forgiven for thinking they were visiting another entirely different Italian lake.  Such is the contract between the northern and southern sections of Garda.  You will just have to visit to find out.  A boat trip is an excellent way of seeing the lovely little towns and villages dotted around this lakes fascinating shores.

While I am on about boat trips, remember that Vicenza is not too far from Venice.  Either before or after being chauffeured around Venice’s glorious canals by gondola, do not forget to take a boat trip out to the Murano and Burano islands.

For those who prefer more mountainous regions, other sights well worth seeing are the the famous Dolomite mountain range, which is not too distant from Vicenza either.

Italian Cars for Blogstars – Part 4

Years ago I remember reading a review in an English car magazine of the one of the original Alfa Romeo GTVs. The verdict was that it was a nice car, but it was a shame that you needed the stature of an ape to get the best out of it.
