Speeding fines in Italy, again, and Pisa…

It’s official, the article in the Telegraph I read while I was in the UK would seem to indicate that Euro traffic fines will shortly be with us. The same article is available on-line here.  Although this change comes into effect in March 2007, as some who have read this blog will have noticed, the UK DVLA has already been giving out the addresses of offenders to the Italian authorities so they can send victims a nice little fine.

Stop reading, start speaking

Stop translating in your head and start speaking Italian for real with the only audio course that prompt you to speak.

For some not exactly clear reason a number of people who have left comments on my blog have been ending up with fines for traffic offences whilst driving through Pisa.  If you happen to find yourself there in the near future, watch out, because the area into which certain cars are not allowed does not seem to be well signposted.

Silvio Berlusconi

Ruby, Bunga Bunga, Berlusconi and Gifts

Very shortly it looks as if Italy’s prime minister Silvio Berlusconi is going to receive a summons to appear in court on charges of having paid for illegal sex with a minor.

That minor Ruby, who was 17 at the time and thus below the age of consent for prostitutes, which is 18 in Italy, is denying having had sex with Berlusconi.

Trash in Naples, Italy

Trash Troubles A Burning Issue in Naples, again

A while back, a while before the election of Berlusconi into power, Italy, and Naples in particular, came to the attention of the world for all the wrong reasons. It was a nasty situation, possibly provoked by the mafia, which left Naples full of festering piles of garbage. Well, the trash, alas, is back.

Billionaire’s Beef

This post was inspired by this lovely little comment from a post over at Bleeding Espresso: Please let’s ignore the fact that Berlusconi has fooled a majority of Italians into voting him into office a third time, OK? And also that my local party lost as well. Instead let’s move on to happier, comforting topics. Like food.

Mike Bongiorno – the Quiz Show Host who United Italy

I’ve no idea how many people outside of Italy have heard the name Mike Bongiorno, or may even know that he recently passed away. I would not imagine either, that many would believe that a television personality is credited with uniting Italy.

The Seaside Pleasures of Nervi, Near Genoa, Italy

Not far from the northern Italian coastal city of Genoa, lies the scenic seaside suburb of Nervi. As Genoa lover Di Mackey, and a few others know, sleepy little Nervi has its attractions. My other half is from Genoa, and first took me to Nervi long ago. I liked it, and you might too.
