Places to visit in Milan – San Maurizio Church

San Maurizio Church, Milan

There is certainly no shortage of places to visit in Milan, Italy, but you might not have heard of San Maurizio church.

If you have not, then perhaps you should have because the art within is simply amazing and is well worth seeing. Indeed, this church has been dubbed by one Italian art expert as Milan’s sistine chapel.

I’ve produced a video photo slideshow to give you a taster of the spectacular art that lies within Milan’s sistine chapel.

San Maurizio church can be found close to the centre in Milan’s Corso Magenta. Best of all, entry into this absolute jewel, which does not look much from the outside, is free.

I found out about this church only quite recently and discovered that it is kept open by volunteers of the Touring Club Italiano. Conservation work has only recently been completed.

Restoration of the frescos began in 1997 and the work was completed in June 2015. Construction of the church started in 1503. Artists Bernardino Luini and Antonio Campi, amongst others, where involved in the decoration of the church’s interior.

If you are looking for places to visit in Milan, then I’d recommend adding San Maurizio Church to your things to see list.

The area surrounding this church is also lovely and next door there’s an archeological museum. Both would make ideal places to while away time in the event Milan is being battered by a heavy rainstorm.

Enjoy your visit.
