If you, like me, you think Italy is extremely photogenic, you might be interested to hear that Italy Chronicles is to run photo contests. The first one will start on June 1st, 2017.
Visitors to Italy Chronicles will decide which photo is the best photo of Italy by voting for it.
Photographers, on the other hand, will get more votes for their photos by using social media to help spread the word about their lovely images of Italy.
Whoever submits the photo that gets the most votes will receive an Amazon gift voucher to the value of €25 (Or equivalent in UK pounds or US Dollars). You may submit three of your photos.
Discover the Italy You Don’t Know
What I’m hoping is that these photo contests will help show off corners of Italy that are not that well known. Yes, I love Rome, Florence, Venice and Tuscany too, but there’s ever so much more to Italy. Italians are more than welcome to enter to show off their favorite corners of Italy to the world.
Personally, I’d like to see more photographs of Italy’s southern regions, such as Campania, Basilicata, Molise, Calabria, Puglia and, of course, Sicily. It’d also be nice to see photo contests with images of Sardinia and of Italy’s other regions.
It’d also be good if the photo contests help uncover some new photographic talent.
Useful Information for This and Future Photo Contests
I’ll be monitoring things and photos will be moderated before they appear on ItalyChronicles.com. Photos will need be no more than 200kb, that’s 0.2 megabytes in size. The maximum hight allowed is 1920 pixels and the maximum width is 1080 pixels. A landscape photo of 1920 pixels by 1280 or so, should be fine.
Stop reading, start speaking
Stop translating in your head and start speaking Italian for real with the only audio course that prompt you to speak.
Having run a little test, I found that I could save one of my own photos at a 90% .jpeg quality setting (at 300dpi – if you are interested and want your photos to look good on high definition displays). The upload system will let you know if your photo is too big, file size and dimensions-wise. Any good photo editor will be able to resize photos and export them at a 90% or so quality setting.
If you use an Android phone, to resize photos you could use the handy and free, Photo Resizer HD app. I use it.
You will retain rights to photos submitted but they will end up via Italy Chronicles’s social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and the like. If you are not happy with this, don’t submit photos.[contextly_auto_sidebar]
Please try to submit photos you’d like the world to see. The photos must be your own work. Feel free to use photos you took a few years back. You know, those images filling up your hard drive.
Contest Period
The first contest will run from June 1 to June 30, 2017, although voting will be possible up to July 15 (if I’ve set the new system up right!), after which date, the most voted for image in the photo contest will be announced. Before the most popular photo is announced, you’ll be able keep an eye on entries and see how many votes they are getting here.
