Watching television, any television, in another language is a very effective way of developing comprehension skills, and familiarises you with regional accents too.And do not worry about not understanding more complex stuff - watch it anyway. You are understanding much more than you think. TV helps you revise grammar and vocabulary and you may even note that it adds a few new structures to that database which is your brain.Once you can speak Italian, then you can always stop watching those quiz shows!Affari Tuoi - yuk! Glad someone likes it!Good luck learning Italian - and don't become too frustrated - it takes time and patience - but you'll get there :)Best,AlexPS Whidbey Island looks lovely.

Hi Louise,

Actually, although I detest the things, I agree that they really can help you learn Italian. They are easy to follow if one is not fluent enough to follow the Italian dramas and they really help expand one's vocabulary. I am particularly fond of Affari Tuoi and Eredita. It really amused me when the former became a hit show in the U.S.--Deal or No Deal!

I am not a fan of quiz shows but I have to admit that when in Italy I find them oddly appealing.
