Photograph: Man with Globe in Milan

I quite like this man holding a globe who can be spotted towards the Via Canonica end of Via Paolo Sarpi in Milan. Today, I used my new camera to photograph him.

Here’s the photograph I took along with a little special effect lighting to subtly spotlight the little man.

Hope you like my Italy image.

Italy presents so many photo opportunities it’s almost overwhelming. There’a also the light. In the evenings, there’s the photographically beloved ‘Golden Hour’ but it doesn’t stop there. Italy’s townscapes and buildings present a whole new dimension after dark. Then there are all those breathtaking landscapes. On top of all this, there are spectacular mountains all over the nation and they look fabulous when covered in snow and after the snow has melted away.

Have you seen Italy in bloom in the spring? If you have not, you’ve missed out especially if you like photography. Here are some photographs of Milan’s gorgeous pink spring blossoms.

Stop reading, start speaking

Stop translating in your head and start speaking Italian for real with the only audio course that prompt you to speak.

You’ll find photo opportunities all over Italy throughout the year. If you are visiting, bring a good camera and take back some memories. You can always frame them and hang them on your home or office walls.

Even if you do not come to Italy armed with photographic gear, remember that today’s higher end smart phones such as the iPhone 5 and 6 and Samsung’s top offerings are also capable of generating lovely images even if they will probably struggle after dark. Yes, smart phone cameras are getting better but they are still quite a way off beating a good digital camera with a nice large sensor and good quality glass.

So, when are you coming to create images of Italy?

For the camera buffs amongst you, to capture the image above, I used my recently purchased Fujifilm X-T1 with a Fujinon XF 18-55mm f:2.8-4.0 Lens – a combination I’m loving. It’s not only for the quality of the photographs and the sheer usability of the Fujifilm X-T1 camera but also because it’s much lighter weight than my former big and rather cumbersome DSLR.
