Makes you wonder what Roberto Maroni is up to. All show?Mafia bashing does seem to be a vote winner.Best,Alex

Hi Fabio,

Certainly there is some evidence to suggest that what you are asserting is correct (Falconi murder, negotiations with mafia to stop bombings, P2 connections, number of Italian politicians with alleged mafia connections etc).

I hope you are wrong, but I’m not convinced you are. I am sorry to disappoint you, but that war is over, and the Mafia won (in the early nineties). Some mobsters get captured every now and then, but making some time in jail is part of their job. They keep giving order from inside and eventually get out after a short while (of course newspapers only report when they get in, not when they get out).

You ask if Italy is winning the war against the Mafia.
I am sorry to disappoint you, but that war is over, and the Mafia won (in the early nineties).

Some mobsters get captured every now and then, but making some time in jail is part of their job. Longer than me.You will well know that Italy does not play by the kinds of rules you and I consider to be normal and decent. Indeed, the average Italian probably thinks our 'rules' are just plain daft.Regardless, I tend to believe that our concept of honesty and integrity is generally better for society. But maybe I'm wrong.Do remember though, that neither of us understands Italy because we are not Italian. Now, go make friends with a politician, get a plum job as a culinary consultant to the Italian Republic and laugh your way towards retirement. In the meantime, I shall slit my wrists.Best,Alex

How long have you been in Italy dear Judith? This man was said to be a journalist and great friend of Fini. He was defending and promoting the movement of water to the private domain. All I could think of was what happened with the garbage when they did that, and that situation is still not corrected in spite of sending in the military at taxpayer expense. Professional journalist is best friends with a top politician? Hmm, when my friend who was a top journalist on the NY Times fell into that pit it wrecked her career. Does no one but me think journalists should not be best friends with the government? They make me literally sick. I may have to stop paying attention to Italian poitics if the Italians don't step up and end the abuse.

I saw this morning a supposed interview with another minister.
