In Italian, street is ‘via’ and avenue is ‘viale’, although some streets are avenues and vice versa! Via and viale are the two words used in many street names in Italy.

Street can also be ‘contrada’ and, sometimes ‘strada’ – although ‘strada’ is more commonly used to mean ‘road’ in Italian.
