Alitalia RIP?

Things are not looking at all good on the Alitalia Italian national airline front.

Intransigent Italian unions have refused to back down in negotiations aimed at saving Italy’s beleaguered national carrier.  The net result is that everyone who works for the company will probably lose their jobs.  Nice move unions!

It looks as though Alitalia’s planes will soon be heading for the clouds one last time.

Is this then the last word?

Rest In Peace Alitalia?

Still, look on the bright side.  At least they won’t be able to go on strike!!

But there is always nationalisation, which will mean that those regular Alitalia strikes will be back with a vengeance to haunt everyone.

Actually there is enough blame to go around, starting with Berlusconi.

He ignored the Alitalia problem (and the Naples trash problem and …) in his previous administration and torpedoed the Air France agreement in a typically cynical move to gain votes at election time.

Now his chickens have come home to roost, and of course, just like a child in the school yard, he’s pointing his finger at everyone else (and controls enough media to get away with it).
