Abruzzo – No Dogs, No Kids and No Smokers = Fabulous Holiday!

The View of Abruzzo from Villas for Two

If your idea of the perfect break involves a holiday for a couple in near total peace and quiet and with zero annoyances, and excluding dogs, kids, and smokers certainly will help, then you may well like to book a holiday in a Villas for Two apartment.  I met owners David and Pauline Brenner while I was in holidaying in Abruzzo this summer and liked their place in Abruzzo an awful lot.

Pauline cooked me a tasty lunch, while David plied me with Pecorino Frizzante wine and let me try some Ratafià – a traditional Abruzzo red wine and black cherry liqueur.  I liked the Ratafià very much, and am trying to track down a bottle of it here in Milan – the bottle I brought back from Abruzzo is now empty, alas.  Sorry, I digress.

There’s plenty to like about David and Pauline’s three villas for two, each of which has its own kitchen/dining area, and terrace with this view:

Villa in Italy with Swimming Pool

A short crawl away from the apartments is a swimming pool – which you may welcome seeing as Abruzzo can become very hot during the summer months.

Luckily though, Villas for Two sits on the side of a hill at an altitude which means the summer evenings are likely to be cool enough for two of you to get a good night’s sleep.  And if the summer heat really does prove too much to bear, there is air conditioning to help cool you down, and there is the pool too.

For a much larger “pool”, the Adriatic is a short drive away.  Yes, you will need a car to get the most out of Abruzzo, but cars can be rented from Pescara airport, so you can hop off your plane and into your car – very convenient.

Visit Abruzzo in Autumn

Although summer in Abruzzo is wonderful, Villas for Two is open all year round – the apartments are heated too – and I’d thoroughly recommend visiting Abruzzo in autumn for a long get-away-from-it-all weekend.  The autumnal colours of Abruzzo, as you can see from the photograph below, are amazing:

While in Abruzzo I had spotted some photographs of this Italian region in autumn and was extremely surprised to see all the colour.  The golds and ruby reds are what most people, including me, would associate with both New and old England, not southern Italy!  Oh well, you live and you discover.

Outdoor lovers and photographers will find the nearby Majella mountains well worth exploring and if you are not sure where to start, speak to your hosts David and Pauline who know the area very well and will be able to tell you where to go and what to see.  They will also tell you what’s on – Abruzzo has a very full calendar of events.

You can even go skiing in the area – during the winter months.

Open All Year

It’s no surprise Villas for Two offers holidays for couples all year round – the Italian region of Abruzzo has something to offer visitors in every season.

Is there anything to dislike about Villas for Two?  No, I can’t think of anything, aside perhaps from the fact that it can be a mite difficult to find the first time, but David does provide visitors with comprehensive, tried and trusted directions, which after one or two minor detours, got me to David and Pauline’s peaceful and scenic corner of Abruzzo in Italy.  And do not place all your faith in that GPS navigation system, as David told me, someone who, of all people, really should have known better, ended up royally lost owing to the blind faith he placed in his beloved sat-nav system!  Google Maps or a traditional paper road map used in conjunction with GPS systems can help avoid lengthy detours, as I know myself!

By the way, David and Pauline were over the moon after one of their guests booked another stay – now if that is not a complement, I don’t know what is!
